Boku Dake ga Inai Machi - Review

Synopsis : When tragedy is about to strike, Satoru Fujinuma finds himself sent back several minutes before the accident occurs. The detached, 29-year-old manga artist has taken advantage of this powerful yet mysterious phenomenon, which he calls "Revival," to save many lives. However, when he is wrongfully accused of murdering someone close to him, Satoru is sent back to the past once again, but this time to 1988, 18 years in the past. Soon, he realizes that the murder may be connected to the abduction and killing of one of his classmates, the solitary and mysterious Kayo Hinazuki, that took place when he was a child. This is his chance to make things right. Boku dake ga Inai Machi follows Satoru in his mission to uncover what truly transpired 18 years ago and prevent the death of his classmate while protecting those he cares about in the present. Plot/Story : 9/10

In Erased, main character Satoru Fujinuma is able to go back in time with just enough time to fix an accident. He eventually names this power “Revival”. In the beginning, we are introduced to minor situations where this power is demonstrated but eventually the anime sheds light on a huge problem. Overall, I think the story was well written. It gave us a lot to question, a lot of foreshadowing and many other things that left me wanting for more. Hands down the best anime story for Winter 2016 anime. With nothing bad to say, I gave it's plot/story a 9/10. It wasn’t a masterpiece, hence the 9 but it was definitely above average.

Animation/Design 8.5/10

The animation in this anime where average, but this is overlooked with the amazing character designs. Every character had fairly detailed and loveable artwork. I had no major complaints with animation or design. Even if you do, my guess is that it will be overlooked with the amazing story at it's core. (Which is what's most important my opinion)

Characters : 7.8/10

Most characters introduction weren't exactly the best I've been, but they did a good job for the most important characters. Those who have the biggest roles were introduced in a logical and cool way. Everyone else’s, like I said, were average but not necessary to the already amazing anime.

Audio/Soundtrack 8/10

The soundtrack fit the scenes very well. If there was a scene with a lot of tension, it would be followed by a logical soundtrack to amplify that feeling. In almost every scene, that was present. It's not super amazing, but the soundtracks really complimented the anime.

Overall, I thought it was an amazing anime worth giving a try. If you like a good mystery anime with mature characters, this is it. I was hooked since the beginning, it definitely lived up to it's hype. It's frequently been compared to : Steins;gate, Ano Hi Mita Hana, and Detective Conan just to give you an idea. Thanks for reading, and I hope this helped you!
